Samuel, an Agricultural Labourer, is described as a pauper labourer in the parish records which means that he was in receipt of parish relief and may have had to wear a P on his clothes to designate the fact.
He married Martha Gulliver in West Haddon on 28th February 1771 and they had one child, Mary. After Martha died he married Dorothy Brooksby in Clipstone on 13th January 1781 and the couple had seven children.
