O n the 1841 census Mary surname is given as Houghton as is two year old Sarah’s. On the 1851 census she is identified as Joshua’s daughter but as married with the name Nicholson though I have not yet found a record of the marriage between 1841 and 1851. It may be that she was already married in 1841 and marked in error. Sarah seems to appear as a visitor in 1851 staying with Thomas Hodgson and wife. By 1861 Mary has been remarried and widowed again and is now Mary Wright. In 1871 she is living as housekeeper to John Cookson, a carrier, and in 1881 she is living with her nephew, Thomas Houghton.
